BERNARD JANSON ; PALETTE KNIFE PAINTING; FRENCH COUNTRYSIDE LANDSCAPES.

HOW AS A CONTEMPORARY ARTIST PAINTER, I CONCEIVE PAINTING LANDSCAPES

For me, it is a matter of painting humble and quiet country landscapes, peaceful rivers, pretty typical villages, bucolic gardens, mysterious forests; where, whatever the season, people’s lives are closer to nature.
To observe scenes of nature, to paint radiant, colourful, vast and sunny landscapes, or to capture the beauty of certain landscapes or even to find landscapes that invite to the divagation of the mind and to the reverie is, for the artist painter I am, a real pleasure.

The graphic aspect of this very old stone bridge as well as the mountainous landscape that I discovered during one of my hikes in Corsica seduced me. So, on site I took several photos of it and then I painted this artwork in my workshop.

The simple and geometric shapes of this ancient stone bridge, make a beautiful contrast with the bright reflections in the water of the river and the surrounding mountains.

The windmill of BOESCHEPE village stands its proud silhouette on top of a hill. With a nearby estaminet and its red brick walls, we are in a typical landscape of French Flanders that I liked to paint.

the graphics of this pretty wooden windmill gives a lot of charm to the surrounding landscape and the sensation of the beautiful of this country scene provokes enjoyment and sympathy.

The straw heaps that we see in the countryside after the harvest, with their modern cylindrical shape, form a nice contrast with the bucolic aspect of this rural landscape.

I liked the graphical aspect of the ruins of this old house in the middle of the countryside, with its strangely formed timber frame, with its cob walls and the holes in the roof that suggest an abstract artwork.

A SHORT STORY OF THE LADNSCAPE ARTWORK.

Since the painting exists, contemporary landscapes artwork, as we see it to day, is the result of a long evolution. In the middle age, landscapes appear only as an additional decoration to the main subject of the artwork.
During the fifteenth century a landscaping tradition began to emerge with the flamish and dutch painters. Landscapes began to gain in importance but they were not still the main subject of the artwork.
In some of the canvas of VAN EYCK, by example, landscapes can be seen behind a door or a window opened. they give to the painting a spatial dimension, a desire to go and see what happens further on.
Later , VERMEER, began to empower landscape particularly with the famous “view of delft”.
Next, other painters like CONSTABLE began to paint canvas with landcapes as the main subject of their artwork, to arrive to impressionists painters who consacrete utterly, landscapes as the main subject of they artwork.

HOW, AS A CONTEMPORARY ARTIST PAINTER I CONCEIVE ARTISTICAL LANDSCAPE.

To paint peaceful countryside landscapes, typical ancient villages, gardens, forests, where whatever are the seasons, people's life is closer to the nature are my prefered painting subjects.

Depecting natural sceneries, painting vast and sunny landscapes, capturing beauty of some lands, also finding landscapes that invite you to rambling and dreaming is, for the artist painter i am, a real pleasure.
